6 Teeth Whitening Aftercare Tips

Teeth Whitening Sunnyvale, TX

Teeth Whitening can provide a number of benefits, but what a lot of people don’t think about is what the aftercare is like once the treatment process is over. In this article, we will go over some aftercare tips that are great to know. Being able to care for the teeth once they are freshly whitened can provide long-term benefits. Read more below!

Teeth whitening aftercare tips

1. Avoid dyed beverages

In general, it is best that people avoid heavily dyed beverages because they cause severe staining. While the teeth are strong, they are also easily prone to staining. Red wines, coffees and teas often stain the teeth the worst, so it’s best to avoid them at all costs. Immediately following the whitening treatment, it is recommended to only consume foods that are light in color, such as unseasoned chicken or fish and plain starches like pasta or rice. These will help ensure that the freshly white color remains on the surface.

2. Use sensitivity products

Almost always, people feel some sort of sensitivity to cold or hot temperatures after a whitening treatment is over. A great aftercare tip is to invest in a toothpaste that helps with sensitivity or a gel that can be applied. These products will help reduce any discomfort after a whitening treatment is complete.

3. Avoid chewy foods

Foods that are extremely chewy may often cause damage to the freshly whitened tooth. If a person tries to chew something that isn’t chewable then the food may get stuck to the surface, thus causing a stain or damage to the whitened surface. Avoiding chewy foods for a few days can be beneficial.

4. Brush gently

Again because the teeth might be sensitive, it is best to brush them gently after a whitening treatment is complete. While regular brushing is apart of aftercare, it is best to do so gently so that discomfort or stripping of the whitening won’t occur.

5. Don’t overdo it

Sometimes when people complete a whitening treatment, they aren’t 100% pleased with their results. They may want to immediately do another treatment but it’s best to not overdo these whitening treatments as to many may actually harm the enamel. Taking time between treatments will ultimately keep the teeth in the best shape possible.

6. Follow up with a dental professional

An important part of aftercare is for a person to have a follow-up visit with their dentist. Once a whitening treatment is complete, it’s best to have a dentist examine the teeth to ensure that there wasn’t any harm done during the whitening process. It’s always good to be safe rather than sorry — especially when it comes to the teeth!

Having the teeth whitened can be great for many people, but it is still important to follow these aftercare tips as they will also provide benefits over time.
