Reasons to Consider Dentures

Dentures And Partial Dentures Sunnyvale, TX

A dentist can recommend dentures to you for a variety of reasons. They should discuss your oral health with you during each visit. The dentist will try to save your teeth any way they can, but you must make sure you go to your regular checkups and do whatever they feel is needed to help maintain your oral hygiene.

Healthy teeth and gums are the results of a proper oral hygiene routine. Everyone should try their hardest to be brushing their teeth twice a day, flossing, and using mouthwash. If you do not establish this routine early in your life, you may end up needing these at some point.

You may need either a partial or a complete set. The type you require will be discussed with you by your dentist.

Reasons why a dentist will recommend dentures

  • You are having a hard time chewing your food. Pain caused by decaying teeth will keep you from chewing your food properly because of the pain.
  • Chronic severe toothaches. Toothaches are caused when tooth decay reaches the inside of your tooth. If caught early enough, your dentist can treat tooth decay by filling a cavity, or they may need to perform a root canal.
  • You are missing several teeth. You can be missing teeth for many reasons. You may have suffered trauma to your face due to an accident; you may have an illness that affects your oral health or take medications that cause tooth decay.
  • Loose or Moving Teeth. If you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, you will start to have loose teeth, and they will begin to shift. This is because the periodontal disease causes receding gums and causes your teeth not to have the support they need.
  • Red and swollen gums. Red, swollen or bleeding gums are symptoms of gingivitis and periodontal disease. If treated early enough, your dentist may be able to prevent the symptoms from progressing.

They are recommended when a patient has lost all teeth on either the lower or upper jaw. They are also given to patients who have lost all teeth on both the upper and lower jaw.

You will only be fitted for after your gums have completely healed from having the remaining teeth extracted. The healing process can take several months.

How are dentures fitted?

Once it is determined that dentures are your best option, your dentist will take impressions of your mouth. This allows the set to be made specifically for your mouth.

You will work with the dentist to pick out the size, shape, and color. The dentist will insert the set into your mouth to ensure they fit correctly when they are finished.

Dentures are an inexpensive way to replace missing teeth and give you back your smile. You can have your confidence back and the ability to eat and function the way you did before your dental troubles began.

Your dentist will recommend what they feel is the best option to maintain your oral health. Only your family dentist knows what is best for you.
